When you think of hearts, you think Valentines Day, don't ya?? Well it's December and I think they're fitting for Christmas too! I made this hanging Gingerbread for my kitchen with the gingerbread men I made yesterday, and I added a small heart pillow in the center, made with the Framelit dies from Sizzix. Have you all ever tried these dies before? They are awesome!! I LOVE them and I would love to own all of them because the ideas for these dies are just endless. :) I hope you like my project and below, I'll show you just how I made these little hearts.

Okay to make these hearts you need the following dies from Sizzix:
And a few misc items such as: Fabric, poly fiberfill, scrap piece of cardstock, need & thread, alphabet stamps & ink, metal rusted snowflake, poly fiberfill, a small cinnamon stick and hot glue.
If you're going to make the hanger, you will also need, heavy gauge wire, and gingerbread men, (either handmade or store bought). My gingerbread men are finished with rusty bells, peppercorns and varnish, so they are for decorative use only.
Okay lets get started on the hearts...
Die cut 2 hearts for every 1 heart that you want to make, then with right sides together, pin them.
Next, using your sewing machine and a 1/4 in seam allowance, stitch around the heart leaving a small opening on the side.
After sewing all your hearts, flip right side out and stuff them with poly fiberfill.
Then with a needle and thread, stitch the opening closed. You are finished! :) Easy huh?
Take the hearts one step further and hot glue a metal rusted snowflake, a cinnamon stick and a banner stamped with a sentiment.
I chose to make a hanger for one of my hearts and to do that, I simply cut a piece of wire to the desired length, rounding the top and winding it around itself then hot glued a gingerbread man at the top, the heart to the center and another gingerbread man at the bottom, to finish, add a rusty bell and wind wire around itself.
So sweet huh? I love how this turned out! And if you made extra hearts like I did....why not turn one into an ornament?
And what would Christmas be with Gingerbread Men?? I made these yesterday and there really is nothing like the smell of gingerbread filling your home at the start of the Holiday Season. I just love it, and I love making these little guys....

Ingredients:
3 TBLS Shortening
1/2 Cup Sugar
!/2 Cup Molasses
1 tsp of Baking soda
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp ginger
3 1/2 Cups of flour
3/4 Cup water
Cookie cutters, peppercorns or small rusty bells and clear acrylic varnish
To Make:
Beat shortening and sugar together till light and fluffy, stir in molasses. Sift dry ingredients and add to shortening mixture alternating with water. Dough will be stiff, refrigerate for 3 hours or overnight.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease baking sheets, or use a Silpat. Cut dough into 3 pieces and knead to warm on a lightly floured surface. Cut out using cookie cutters and place on cookie sheets. Decorate with peppercorns and rusty bells. Bake for 20 minutes, then shut off oven and let cool inside. Remove ornaments from sheet and place on rack and allow to dry for 3 days. Then preserve with 3 coats of clear varnish.
